“How do you live with a man for close to three decades and a half and not find out that he is a notorious serial killer? Don’t your instincts ever push you to spy on his closet or to ask him prying questions regarding his daily activities to see what he is doing other than being a church leader in the church and a lovely husband to you at home?” These are some unavoidable questions from people to Paula Dietz after her husband’s hideous crimes that remained covered for thirty-one years were uncovered in February 2005. Read along to understand Paula’s stance on the incidents; whether or not she is one of the accomplices or, yet still, another victim.
Who is Paula Dietz?
Paula Dietz is a former American libertarian and bookkeeper who rose to the spotlight due to her marital affiliation with the infamous American serial killer, Dennis Lynn Rader. Now, Dennis Lynn Rader is a notorious American serial killer, otherwise known as the BTK serial killer or the BTK strangler. He is responsible for the murder of ten people in cold blood in two cities in his residential state, Wichita, and Park City, in Kansas State, respectively.
Paula Dietz never suspected her psychopathic husband nor did she know the extent he had gone even though she lived and shared the same apartment with him. Paula’s husband murdered ten people from January 15, 1974, to January 19, 1991, but he was a loving father to his two kids and a good husband to his wife. Because of his psychopathic treatment of hiding crimes just so well, neither his wife, Paula nor his two children, Brian Rader and Kerri Rawson had a clue about his murder antecedents. But they would find out on February 25, 2005, close to a decade and a half after he committed his tenth and last murder.
The day is Friday afternoon, February 25, 2005. FBI agents would break the news of Dennis Lynn Rader’s arrest to his family at a time they had lived and bonded for close to three decades as a family, did they fret? Did they challenge the claims or just allowed the law to take its cost without raising a brow? All that went down in the BTK Serial Killer case is discussed here. Paula Dietz Career, Marriage
Soon after she became a certified Accountant, Paula Dietz started working as a bookkeeper in a local bookstore in Park City. Because she is a devoted Christian, Paula would at some point in her career as an Accountant volunteer to work for her local church. While her career lasted, she worked as an accountant and bookkeeper, earning salaries that she used in sustaining her low-profile life. She also once worked for ADT Security Services.
About her romantic life. Paula Dietz was a very dedicated Christian. Since she would prefer to marry someone who held the same beliefs as she did, Paula crossed paths with Dennis Lynn Rader, who was also a devoted member of the church she attended at the time. Dated for a few months after their first meeting, Paula and her now divorced husband, Dennis Lynn Rader, tied their wedding knot in a church wedding that was held in Park City, Kansas State, on May 22, 1971.
They had their first child whom they named Brian Rader on July 27, 1975 (47 years old) but there is more. About six weeks after they had their first child, Brian Howard Rader, Paula Dietz’s husband, Dennis Lynn Rader, would commit his first murder. The year is 1974, Tuesday, 15 January 1974; one household, four victims. The Otero family became the first victims of his psychopathic fantasies — Joseph Otero Sr. (aged 38), his wife, Julie Otero (aged 33), and his two children, Josephine Otero (aged 11), and Joseph Otero Jr. (nine years old) were killed in their residential home, located in 803 N. Edgemoor Street, Wichita.
Dennis Lynn Rader continued living with his family like he hadn’t wiped out another man’s family. In 1978, the young couple had their second child, Kerri Rawson. Although several reports confirmed that he had a history of torturing and killing animals, neither his wife nor his children suspected him. Paula Dietz got married to the BTK Serial killer when she was 23 and her BTK Serial Killer was 26. In 2005, she filed for an emergency divorce from BTK after it was confirmed that he is responsible for the murder of ten Kansas State residents in cold blood. She was granted the same by the court, without delays. Paula was 57 years old at the time. After the divorce, she moved out of Kansas State to avoid the media and their unending questions. She cut ties with Dennis, never visited him nor attended any court hearing pertaining to the murder case.
Paula Dietz’s husband, Dennis Lynn Rader, murdered his last victim Dolores Earline Johnson Davis (aged 62) on January 19, 1991, at her residential home, 6226 N. Hillside Street, Wichita in East Park City. According to sources, Dennis often wrote down plans for his next operation in small pieces of paper in business card-like paper, which he would hide all over the house, where no one could suspect or reach them.
In 2004, an investigation regarding the murder of the ten victims was launched. Being an unrepentant psychopath, Paula Dietz’s ex-husband, Dennis Lynn Rader, jeered the media and the police with information regarding the murders. Letters, packages, photographs, and other mementos were among other things he continued sending until, in February 2005, he sent a purple 1.44-Megabyte Memorex floppy disk to Fox TV affiliate KSAS-TV in Wichita. And well, the police were able to identify and arrest him through this disk after they analyzed the metadata of the disk.
A court judgment in a local court in Kansas State, on 18 August, Sentenced The BTK serial killer to 175 years imprisonment. He has been incarcerated at the El Dorado Correctional Facility in Prospect Township, Kansas State since August of 2005. And although she had no clue about the murder incidents while they happened under her nose, Paula found a poem in her husband’s closet in 1977 titled “Shirley Locks.” This creepy short poem reads; “Thou shalt not scream… but lay on cushion and think of me and death.”
Dietz confronted her husband but he lied and said that the poem was a draft he had written for one of his college classes. Understandably, Paula did not doubt him for a second because he was attending college courses at the time. However, Dennis Lynn Rader had written this short poem after he murdered his sixth victim by strangulation; 26-year-old Shirley Ruth Vian Relford, who lived at her apartment at 1311 S. Hydraulic Street, Wichita (murdered on March 17, 1977). What are the police saying about Paula? was she charged with any offense? For now, the police find Paula innocent, they said her only mistake was taking care of Dennis as a husband.

Just like her son, Brian Rader, Paula Dietz has yet to say a thing or two regarding the murder incidents that forever changed her life. Unlike her and her son, her daughter, Kerri Rawson, has been vocal about her trauma and healing process.
