Jacob Bernstein Brought Back His Mother From the Dead
Now, “Everything Is Copy (2015)” is a documentary compiled to sort of, according to Jacob in one of his interviews, bring back memories and the life of his mother to live. According to Jacob in an interview with an American-based online magazine, Roger Ebert, published on March 21, 2016, in part;
“I didn’t feel like a co-conspirator. But the secret is part of the reason of(sic) why I was driven to talk about it for two-plus years. I realized that other people might be more articulate on this subject than me. It was a moment when self-analysis fails(sic) when you are trying to explain something slightly unexplainable. And I do think I wanted to keep talking about her and what happened.”
Speaking of co-conspirators and the sort, Nick Hooker co-directed this documentary. And well, this documentary focuses on telling the story of how his mother lived some parts of her life that were better documented than left uncovered. Accordingly, many of his mother’s peers and collaborators, including actresses Meryl Streep and Mike Nichols, were interviewed; made part of the co-conspirator. Also, his father, Carl Bernstein, was interviewed. According to the information, his father spoke about the affair that broke up their marriage and served as the basis for Nora Ephron’s 1983 novel “Heartburn.”When asked about whether or not he has the “filmmaking bug now,” Jacob Bernstein said in full:
“Yeah, I want to do another documentary. But it will be harder to get financing, despite people responding well to it. I want to stick with documentaries and maybe do one or two more of these. I am not running to jump into narrative film(sic). They cost money and I’d like to be ready for it. There is nothing bad about taking my time. Documentary filmmaking feels like a good extension of what I have done as a journalist.”
