Early Life
Ella was born in London, England on January 14, 2003. Her father, Eric Clapton, is a singer and her mother, Mella McEnery, is a well-known socialist and activist.
She has two sisters, Julie Rosie Clapton and Sophie Belle Clapton, and she had a younger brother, Conor, who sadly passed away when he was only four. Ella is the middle child.
She is a student at Newcastle University, England, studying for a BA in Sociology. Her father, Eric Clapton, is a popular musician and guitarist, and her mother, Melia McEnery, is a social worker.
Her mother is involved in Turn Up For Recovery, a foundation that uses music to talk about addiction and is also a senior clinical advisor at Crossroads Centre Antigua.
Ella’s grandfather had different jobs. Eric’s dad, Edward Walter Fryer, was a soldier from Montreal, Quebec, married to Molly Clapton. He died from leukemia in Toronto at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.

Eric, a singer known for his song Layla, and Melia McEnery, who is a former graphic designer, are Ella’s birth parents.
They first met in 1999, in Los Angeles, when Melia worked for the Giorgio Armani as an organizer, and Eric was with BB King, working on a record.
At a party thrown by Giorgio Armani for Eric, he and Melia were drawn to each other. However, Giorgio had a policy prohibiting employees from dating party guests. Despite this, Eric and Melia decided to go on a date and their connection grew into a full-fledged romance.
The couple split up after the first date but came back together, and in 2001, they had their first daughter, Julie, in June. And on January 14, 2003, Ella May was born, and their third child, Sophie Bell, followed in February 2005.
Ella’s mom, Melia, is from Columbus, Ohio. She has a mix of Korean-Irish and Scottish-English roots.
She used to be a graphic designer but now spends her time working on charities.

Ella’s half-brother, Conor, passed away in March 1999 at the age of four. He fell from a high apartment in New York.
Conor was the son of multiple Grammy winner Eric Clapton and Italian actress/model Lori del Santo.
On the tragic day, Eric was planning to take Conor to the Bronx Zoo and an Italian restaurant.

Conor was playing around the 53rd-floor apartment, where he usually pressed his nose against the window.
Unfortunately, a janitor had left one window open, and Conor fell to his death. This heartbreaking event inspired Eric’s hit song, Tears In Heaven.
