Aaron’s POV

The revelation about Greg and Daniel being brothers had sent shockwaves through my already tumultuous world. It was as if the ground beneath me had shifted, and I found myself struggling to distinguish between the lies and the truth. Did Amelia know about this hidden connection? Was it a part of the elaborate charade, or had she been kept in the dark as well?

I couldn’t shake the feeling that there were deeper layers to this mystery, layers that remained concealed in the shadows. As my thoughts swirled, I decided to confide in Simon, my unwavering confidant, the one person who had stood by me through thick and thin.

Simon leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful look in his eyes. “This changes things, doesn’t it?”

I sighed, my gaze fixed on the floor. “It changes everything. I don’t know what’s real anymore, Simon. I don’t know who we can trust.”

As I grappled with the implications of this revelation, I knew I needed to confront Daniel. He was the key to unraveling this tangled web of deceit, and I had to tread carefully to extract the truth without revealing my own hand.

I found Daniel in his office, engrossed in a pile of paperwork. He looked up in surprise as I entered, quickly masking his initial reaction. “Aaron, what brings you here?”

I took a moment to study him, the mask of professionalism that he wore so well. “Daniel, I couldn’t help but notice something in the meeting today.”

He raised an eyebrow, a polite smile on his face. “Oh? What was that?”

I leaned against his desk, my tone casual. “It seemed like you and Greg are quite friendly. Almost like you’ve known each other for a while.”

Daniel’s expression remained composed, but there was a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes. “Well, we do work together closely. It’s only natural that we develop a rapport.”

I chuckled softly, my voice laced with a hint of amusement. “Of course, Daniel. But sometimes, it’s more than just work, isn’t it? A shared history, perhaps?”

Daniel’s jaw tensed, and I knew I had struck a nerve. “I’m not sure what you’re getting at, Aaron.”

I decided to press further, throwing caution to the wind. “It’s just interesting, you know? How two people can seem so familiar with each other, almost like they’re reading from the same script.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed, and he leaned back in his chair, clearly on guard. “Our efficiency at work can create that illusion, Aaron.”

I chuckled again, my tone dripping with sarcasm. “Oh, I don’t doubt that, Daniel. It’s just that sometimes, in our line of work, secrets tend to stay buried.”

Daniel’s fingers tapped rhythmically on his desk, a clear sign of his growing unease. “I assure you, Aaron, there’s nothing more to it than a professional relationship.”

I leaned in closer, my voice low and conspiratorial. “But you know, Daniel, secrets have a way of coming to light. And when they do, they can be quite destructive.”

The tension in the room was palpable, and I could see the unease in Daniel’s eyes. He had no idea that I knew about the hidden connection between him and Greg, and I intended to use that to my advantage.

With a final, enigmatic smile, I turned and left his office, leaving behind a perplexed and suspicious Daniel.

As I walked away, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. I had thrown a carefully crafted shadow of doubt over Daniel, and now, I would wait to see how he reacted, to see if he would reveal more of the truth that lay hidden in the shadows.
