We were in our car, returning home. The dinner was delicious and Bryan made me taste all the best dishes of the restaurant. The best thing was we both had light conversation. For those few hours, we forgot our past and enjoyed the present with each other. I really appreciate Bryan for not mentioning anything regarding what happened between us in the past.
“So Amelia, how’s Kylie?” Bryan asked.
My smile disappeared.
I suddenly remembered everything that happened in the evening.
“Princess?” Bryan looked at me with a concerned look.
“Oh yes, Kylie, she’s good.” I forced a smile.
“That’s good.” Bryan smiled back.
I looked outside at the passing trees and buildings and wondered whether I had taken the right decision by splitting up with Bryan.
Should I have trusted him? Was he telling the truth? Was he really innocent?
“We have reached.” Bryan’s voice interrupted my thoughts.
“Thank you so much Bryan for this marvelous evening.” I smiled as I opened my seat belt.
“Always welcome, Princess.” He smiled back.
That angelic smile…
I got down from the car and so did Bryan. I wanted to say Good Night but instead, I stared at his eyes. The silence was comfortable.
Bryan took some steps towards me and tucked a strand of hair behind my ears.
“Amelia…” He whispered.
Someone cleared his throat which made me and Bryan back away a little, increasing the distance between us. I looked towards the direction of sound and my eyes met with a familiar pair of dark brown eyes.
“Good night, princess. I think I should leave now, bye.” Bryan forced a smile towards Aaron and got back to his car.
Soon we were alone in that place as the car left.
I was sleepy and needed rest so I went towards the lift when a strong pair of hands stopped me.
“Where are you going, Princess?” He mocked Bryan’s way of saying ‘Princess’.
“What’s the matter with you?” I was not in a frame of mind to fight as I was exhausted.
“The matter is that, I don’t want anyone to call you Princess, whether it’s your friend or ex-boyfriend.” He wrapped his hands around my waist as he pulled me nearer.
I widened my eyes.
Ex-boyfriend? But how on Earth, he knows about it? My blood started boiling as realization hits me.
It must be Kylie.
“Why? What makes you think that I am going to listen to a creepy stranger?” I snapped furiously.
“You know what Amelia? Insulting me won’t help here.”
I fake laughed, “What the hell do you think of yourself? First you insult me, take my best friend away from me and then suddenly be nice to me and then confuse the hell out of me and now, you are telling that you don’t want anybody to call me Princess? I freaking hate you.”
I didn’t know that my words would actually have an emotional impact on him as he leaves my hand.
But now that I started to tell, I won’t stop so easily.
“Do you have any idea how much you had hurt me? Kylie was the only person whom I had in this whole world and you took her too away from me.” I didn’t even realize when I had started crying.
“I don’t know why the people whom I trust and love the most are always taken away from me.” I kneeled down in the ground as I suddenly felt very feeble and pathetic.
The air was cold but it suddenly felt colder because of the silence.
At first, I thought Aaron had left but the sudden warmth made me realize that he was still here.
I didn’t stop him from embracing me and instead kept my head on his chest and cried my heart out as he kept on rubbing my back and telling me to calm down.
“I hate you so much for perplexing and mystifying me.” I sobbed, “I try my best to hate you but when you do these things, my heart melts and I’m not being able to hate you. I hate you for making me feel like this.” I kept on punching his chest as I sobbed.
He chuckled, “Are you actually hitting me? I can’t even feel your punches. Your hand is so weak.”
I rolled my eyes, “You’re so mean!”
“I’m sorry Amelia. I’m sorry for everything Amelia, but trust me; I never wanted to hurt you.”
His sudden confession made me dumbstruck and wordless.
“If you had no intention of doing, then what’s the thing that compelled you to do so?”
He sighed, “I’m sorry Amelia, but I cannot tell you.”
“Aaron, I don’t understand-“
“Amelia, give me some time. You’ll understand everything.”
I felt my eyelids getting heavy.
“You confuse me a lot.” I somehow managed to say before darkness engulfed me.
