Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 9
I swear, I had never seen those boys move so fast. Within thirty seconds we had our bags and were grouped together in the main bedroom. I was feeling sick to my stomach: I hadn’t seen Jay among Decrioux’s men, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t with them. But how could I know if he was or wasn’t? I tried hard to concentrate as Pierre reached into his bag and pulled out an assortment of objects, putting them on the dresser.
“Here,” he said in a low, urgent voice. “We’ll be using these.”
“What are they?” Josh asked, looking down at them.
Pierre picked up three iPhones, the latest model. “These are for you guys. I already have one.”
“You’re kidding me!” I cried reverently, picking it up, momentarily forgetting the troubles that weighed on my mind. “Dude, I’ve wanted one of these for, like, ever! How the heck did you get your hands on them?”
Pierre grinned at me. “Delta,” he said simply.
“Man, do they love you or what,” Josh said in wonder, shaking his head and inspecting his own phone. Charlie was quiet, looking over his carefully. I wondered at his silence; he seemed to be so distant since we’d met at Decrioux’s manor, and I wondered what was bothering him.
I pushed this out of my over-thinking mind and focused on Pierre, who was talking again.
“They’re not just phones,” Pierre went on. “Here – take these.” He handed us each a pair of sunglasses, all different types and brands. “These won’t work as regular sunglasses,” he warned. “They look tinted but they’re actually not. Your vision will be perfectly normal – and they’re equipped with night vision for the dark. That’s not all though.” He picked up his own pair and slid them on. Then he took my iPhone, tapped an app and handed it back to me. I glanced at it to see my own face staring up at me.
“Wicked…” I breathed.
“The sunglasses work as a camera as well,” Pierre explained. “Whatever I am seeing, you’ll be able to see on your phone. Just remember, there will be three views on your phone: I’m one, Josh is two, Astrid’s three, and Charlie’s four. You’ll know by their numbers who they are, all right?”
“This is sick,” Josh whispered in amazement.
“Hell yeah,” I agreed. “But what if I have to go to the bathroom?”
All three of them gave me a dirty look. “Then take off the freaking glasses, please,” Charlie said sarcastically. “That would be appreciated.”
