Former Chelsea player, Chris Sutton has said that goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was to be blamed for Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over the Blues in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final.

According to him, Kepa’s ‘poor error’ at the Bernabeu caused the Blues 2-0 defeat and put them in a difficult situation going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge next week.

Kepa could not stop Marco Asensio scoring the second of the night after Karim Benzema had put the home side in front.

Although Kepa got a hand on the ball, he could not keep it out.

Sutton has argued the 28-year-old should have done ‘much better’.

“The second goal, I’ve got to say, Kepa has to do much better in my view,” Sutton told the BBC.

It’s a poor error at this level.

“I think at this level your goalkeeper has to save that. He’s got enough of a hand on that ball to keep it out.

“If [Real Madrid goalkeeper] Thibaut Courtois was in the Chelsea goal he would have saved that,” he added.
