Former Premier League stars, Jamie Carragher and Owen Hargreaves, have given their opinions on Marcus Rashford’s red card during Manchester United’s Champions League 4-3 defeat against FC Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Recall that Rashford was given his marching orders in the 42nd minute of the encounter when he caught Danish defender Elias Jelert when trying to protect the ball.

VAR told Lithuanian referee Donatas Rumsas to look at the incident on the pitchside monitor.

Rumsas reversed his decision and gave Rashford a red card.

Reacting, Carragher insisted that it was not the correct decision.

The former defender wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “No way is that a red card for Rashford! Hate these slow motion replays and still images that make everything look 10 times worse.”

Similarly, Owen Hargreaves insisted that Rashford was wrongfully sent off.

Hargreaves told TNT Sports: “Not in a million years. He is not even looking at the defender. When you see an image, it looks poor but it is not malicious.”
