Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise has snubbed transfer interest from Chelsea after signing a new contract extension with his club.
Chelsea were set to sign Olise after activating a £35 million release clause in his contract, but the 21-year-old has decided to sign a new four-year deal with Crystal Palace instead.
Olise’s contract extension is a huge boost for Palace after he also attracted interest from Manchester City earlier in the summer transfer window.
Reacting to Olise’s new deal, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson expressed happiness that the player snubbed Chelsea to remain with the Eagles.
Hodgson said, as quoted by the club’s official website: “It is the best possible news we could have. I had been concerned. It is always concerning when a club of Chelsea’s stature take interest in a player, and people will suggest that a move to them might be the best bet.
“I had always hoped that would not be the case and that Michael would realise that at such a young age, his future here is very bright, and we can help him move very quickly onto another level.”
