Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has told the club to sign Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, describing the Serbian as the best midfielder in Italy.
Arsenal has already completed the signings of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, Fabio Vieira from Porto, Brazilian winger, Marquinhos and goalkeeper Matt Turner.
But they are not done yet in the transfer market as Mikel Arteta is in search of more players to bolster his squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Arsenal is preparing a new bid for Milinkovic-Savic after a £47.2m offer was rejected by Lazio while they’ve also tabled £30m for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio is demanding a fee of around £75m for Milinkovic-Savic
Milinkovic-Savic scored 11 goals and provided the same number of assists for Lazio last season making him one of the outstanding midfield players in the league.
Merson wants his former club to sign either James Ward-Prowse or Tielemans but named Milinkovic-Savic as his preferred signing.
“Youri Tielemans would fit nicely at Arsenal if James Ward-Prowse takes the soft option and stays at Southampton,’ Merson told the Daily Star.
“Leicester’s Tielemans would tick the box for Arsenal. He’d be a decent alternative. But Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is the player I would go for.
“And I think Savic is a lovely player. A really top-drawer player. The way he played for Lazio last season I personally think he is the best midfield player in Italy.”
