Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has expressed surprise over the club’s decision to sign Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham.
Following some injury problems at the beginning of the season, Erik ten Hag’s side was forced to move quickly in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
The likes of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are down injured and the Red Devils appeared to be on course to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.
The Red Devils pulled out of the move to sign Chelsea Cucurella due to the loan fee and have now announced a loan deal for Reguilon.
Neville, a former Red Devils’ defender, said he was surprised that United moved for the Tottenham left-back.
“I have to say I was a little bit surprised that we were going for Reguilon,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“Obviously, we’ve got the issue with Luke Shaw which means it is a stop-gap, it is a temporary measure. They’ve left themselves short in that position.”
