Wales Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has been handed the first red card at the ongoing Qatar 2022 World Cup.
It happened after he landed a head-high karate kick on the opponent. The incident also saw the team reduced to 10.
In the 2-0 loss to Iran, Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeper saw the tournament’s first red card after raising a high-head kick against his opponent.
Late in the game, Iran’s Mehdi Taremi was collided with outside the area by Hennessey, who had rushed off his 18-yard box to stop the attacker from getting a through pass.
The Wales goalkeeper rushed off his line to confront the Iran striker before giving him a “karate kick” to the head.
With the help of the video assistant referee, the 35-year-old goalkeeper’s original yellow card was changed to a red one in the 86th minute (VAR).
