Victor Osimhen is doubtful for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe as a result of injury.
Osimhen limped off early during Nigeria’s 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia on Friday night.
The 24-year-old left camp the following day for medical examinations.
A statement posted on Napoli’s official website on Monday confirmed that the striker has suffered a medium-grade lesion of the biceps femoris in his right thigh.
It is expected that Osimhen will be ruled out for at least three of Napoli’s next matches, however, Sky Sport Italia have noted that the usual recovery time for this sort of injury is typically around four to six weeks.
This is second time Osimhen will be suffering injury on international duty.
In November 2020, the striker was sidelined for several weeks after he dislocated his shoulder playing for the Super Eagles against Sierra Leone in Benin City.
Nigeria will take on Lesotho in their opening fixture in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in Uyo on November 13.
Jose Peseiro’s side will travel to Harare for a matchday two clash against Zimbabwe three days later.
