Juventus manager Max Allegri has admitted that he doesn’t know when Paul Pogba will be fit to return to action.
The French midfielder has been out injured all season after suffering a serious knee injury in his first pre-season game since returning to Juventus in the summer. Said knee injury eventually required Pogba to have surgery, meaning he missed out on France’s 2022 World Cup campaign.
Initial reports suggested that Pogba would be back in action following the World Cup, however speaking to Sky Sport Italia after Juve’s 2-0 friendly win over Arsenal, Allegri admitted that the midfielder hasn’t even started running in training:
“Paul still hasn’t been consistent in training, so I cannot say when he’ll be back. This is the truth and it’s important to say that, otherwise every day we’ll get these questions on how Pogba’s recovery is going. He hasn’t yet started running in training.”
Allegri also provided an update on Federico Chiesa. The wide player was expected to start against Arsenal but suffered a setback in training which meant he was unable to play. The Juve manager played down fears that this injury setback was a re-aggravation of the ACL injury which has kept Chiesea out for nearly a year:
““Chiesa had a muscular issue, but that’s normal when stepping up the intensity after such a long injury lay-off and we preferred not to risk him. He’ll be ready for December 27.”
