Manchester United have submitted a 25-player squad for the 2023/24 Champions League group stage, including new signings Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat.
Every club competing in the group stage must have a minimum of eight “locally trained” players in their squad, either trained by the club or another within that country. United have nine.
In keeping with the UEFA regulations, there are five players who are considered “club trained” – that includes Luke Shaw because he joined United aged 18 – and four others who came through the ranks at other English teams. There are 16 other players.
There is one notable omission from the list and that is teenage starlet Alejandro Garnacho, but it doesn’t mean he won’t be eligible to play in the Champions League this season. The 18-year-old will be included on the B list, yet to be confirmed, which is a supplementary list of players born since the start of 2002 and who don’t count towards the main limit of 25.
