Manchester United have made a fresh move to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Chelsea’s deal to sign the former Arsenal captain hitting a major snag.

The 33-year-old striker joined Barcelona in January following his acrimonious departure from the Gunners and his goals helped the Catalan giants qualify for the Champions League.

Barcelona’s perilous financial plight, allied to the summer arrival of Robert Lewandowski, has forced the club to reluctantly sell one of their prize assets.

Aubameyang had appeared to be on the verge of a return to London where he was due to reunited with Thomas Tuchel who is desperate to sign a new forward to revitalise his misfiring attack.

The Gabon international scored 92 goals in his four years at Arsenal and also enjoyed a productive relationship with Tuchel during their time together at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had been on the verge of agreeing a £25million fee with Barcelona but agreeing personal terms, according to The Sun, has not been as straightforward as anticipated.

The Blues are only willing to offer Aubameyang a one-year contract and see him as a short-term fix tot he attacking problems with RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku already on their wanted list next summer.

Aubameyang, understandably, is holding out for a longer deal, especially as he was under contract at Barcelona until 2025 and will now consider a rival offer from Manchester United, according to Sky Italy.

Erik ten Hag is expected to make significant moves in the market before next week’s deadline with a right-back, a central midfielder, a back-up goalkeeper, a winger and centre forward on his whish list.

United returned to form with a much-needed win over Liverpool on Monday night during which Marcus Rashford returned to form, thriving in a central role.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future still the matter of intense speculation and Anthony Martial suffering a fresh fitness setback, United desperately need another reliable option up front and view Aubameyang as the perfect solution.
