Joao Felix has been sent off on his Chelsea debut following a horror tackle on Kenny Tete before the hour mark at Craven Cottage.
The Portuguese star signed for the Blues on loan on Wednesday and was thrown straight into the starting XI for the club’s short trip to Craven Cottage to take on high-flying Fulham in the Premier League.
Felix had undoubtedly been impressing in his maiden Chelsea game, with his trick, flicks and clever movement receiving plaudits from pundits and football fans on Twitter alike.
And then it all came crashing down.
In the 58th minute, with the ball bouncing loose into the path of Kenny Tete, Felix leaped into a challenge with his studs up and chopped down the Fulham full-back.
After a moment’s thought, and presumably some discussion with VAR officials, the on-loan forward was shown a straight red.
The red card means that Felix will now miss at least one game for Chelsea, but the ban could be up to three games if the foul is deemed to have been severe enough by the Premier League.
