Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has issued an update on Jadon Sancho’s progress after he was recently separated from the first-team for individual training.
Sancho has stuttered once more in his second season at Old Trafford, despite flashes of brilliance under Ten Hag to begin with, and was sent away on an individual training programme as United embarked on a mid-season training camp to Spain ahead of club football’s return.
The club confirmed the plan was ‘part of a process to get back to his highest level’ with Sancho suffering from a loss of form and then illness in the weeks that proceeded the World Cup break.
Ten Hag has offered the latest on the £73m winger, who missed out on England’s World Cup squad, ahead of United’s return to Premier League action. Asked if Sancho could be back for the game against Nottingham Forest on 27 December, he replied: “I don’t think so”.
Ahead of United taking on Burnley in the Carabao Cup, a game they won 2-0, Ten Hag had shed further light on Sancho’s plan, stating the 22-year-old’s issues were both mental and physical.
United have put no estimated timeframe on when Sancho might return and he continues to train away from the first-team, meaning he most likely won’t feature until the New Year.
