Harry Kane has been given time off by Tottenham ahead of his return to club football following England’s World Cup elimination.
Kane missed a crucial penalty in the Three Lions’ 2-1 defeat to France in the quarter-finals on Saturday. He had converted one earlier in the tie to level Wayne Rooney’s all-time England scoring record.
But after being dumped out of the tournament, Gareth Southgate’s men are gearing up to return to their respective clubs.
The Daily Telegraph report that Kane is expected back at Spurs’ Hotspur Way training base on Monday 19 December. They host French side Nice in a friendly on 21 December before making the short trip to Brentford in the Premier League on Boxing Day.
Eric Dier, who only played 33 minutes at the World Cup, is also expected back in training next Monday.
Star forward Son Heung-min will reconvene with the Spurs squad this Tuesday, while three members of the first team remain in Qatar for the semi-finals this week.
Captain Hugo Lloris was part of the France side that knocked out Kane and Dier’s England, becoming Les Bleus’ all-time appearance leader in the process. He now faces Morocco on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Cristian Romero and Ivan Perisic will go head-to-head when Argentina battle Croatia in the first semi-final on Tuesday.
