Manchester United star Marcus Rashford says he ‘hates’ Liverpool more than Manchester City due to the Reds’ history making their rivalry more bitter.
The two most successful teams in the history of English football, United and Liverpool, have been doing battle well before the Premier League began and the intense rivalry shows no signs of seeping away.
The Red Devils have won a record 20 league titles, but their arch-rivals are just one behind them now on 19 after the triumph of Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2020 ended a 30-year wait for the title.
United’s city rivals Man City have enjoyed their success as a club more recently, winning six of eight league titles in the past 10 years.
Rashford has admitted he doesn’t really have much of a reason to dislike City, but does with Liverpool.
When asked if there are any clubs he hates, Rashford told Uninterrupted: ‘Liverpool. I don’t like Liverpool, and City.
‘Obviously, Liverpool have history so it is a bit more bitter but, with City, it’s like you don’t like them but you don’t really have a massive reason not to like them.
‘You just grow up and it’s two Manchester sides, one wears light blue and one wears red. But the rivalry with Liverpool, it feels much more.’
On playing at Anfield, he added: ‘Their fans can take the game away from you. If you let them, they can take it away from you.

‘My first game at Anfield, I almost got sent off straight away and I’m not a malicious player – I wouldn’t try and hurt someone on purpose.’
Liverpool have typically got the better of United over recent seasons, but new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will be looking to change that.
However, the Dutch coach’s side came out on top recently as they inflicted a 4-0 defeat on their rivals in a pre-season friendly last week.
