Former Trinidad and Tobago International Dwight Yorke has hit out at Arsenal for attempting to sign Doglas Luiz from Aston Villa last summer.
He also slammed those in charge of Aston Villa’s transfer business for taking Arsenal’s money for the player he believes is not worth the offer.
Aston Villa turned down Arsenal’s multiple offers for the player including a £25 million bid.
Arsenal had to turn to Chelsea’s Jorginho when it was clear the Villains were not willing to let the midfielder go
Luiz, meanwhile, ended up signing a new contract with Villa but Yorke, a former Manchester United man, believes the Brazilian is not good enough to improve Arsenal’s midfield.
“I don’t understand why Aston Villa didn’t take the money for Luiz in the summer,” Yorke told LegalSportsbooks.com.
“I don’t think he’s a super player to take Arsenal to the next level.
“I don’t understand the hype from the summer when Arsenal nearly signed him.
“I don’t think he’s a top four player.”
