Conor Gallagher has apologised to his teammates, the Chelsea backroom staff and fans after his first-half red card against Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
The England international was shown two yellow cards within 28 minutes of the match at Stamford Bridge, leaving the Blues at a disadvantage with the game still goalless.
Thomas Tuchel’s men went on to win the match anyway, with two Raheem Sterling goals enough to do the damage in a 2-1 victory over the Foxes.
Gallagher felt that he let his side down nonetheless, and issued an apology on social media, for what he described as a rash decision to get a second yellow card.
‘Proud of the team for digging deep today and winning with 10 men,’ the midfielder wrote on Instagram.
‘Personally, I want to apologise to my teammates, staff and the fans. I take full responsibility for the rash decision leaving them with a huge challenge for the rest of the game. Thankfully, they came through.’
Gallagher’s two yellow cards came within seven minutes in the first half and damaged his team’s momentum after the home side had been dominating.

His manager was far from impressed, openly criticising the youngster for his decision making in west London.
Tuchel said: ‘You can’t make the [second] challenge if you have a yellow card after 20 or 25 minutes. The challenge was a clear yellow card and gave us a huge disadvantage.
‘There was no reason to make this decision. He is responsible for what he did and of course he knows it was a huge mistake.’
