Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is said to have not had a good relationship with Tuchel this summer and at the start of the season.
The club also believes that Potter is the man who can help spearhead a long-term project to ensure success on the pitch.
While Brighton will be scrambling to find a replacement, they have received a significant financial compensation for their troubles.
