England manager Gareth Southgate turned to the youth teams to help fill out his numbers in training after three senior stars underwent work away from the group.

Bukayo Saka, Callum Wilson and Levi Colwill all underwent routine load management sessions away from the rest of the training group which, after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish’s withdrawals from camp, left Southgate’s group a little short on numbers.

As a result, three of Joe Edwards’ Under-20 side were given the chance to train with the seniors.

Chelsea centre-back Bashir Humphreys, who completed a loan to Swansea City on deadline day, was called up and joined by a familiar face in Lewis Hall, whose own loan from Chelsea to Newcastle United is set to lead to a permanent transfer next summer.

Hall, who is still only 18, moved to St, James’ Park this summer in a deal which could be worth up to £35m when it becomes permanent next year.

Joining the duo were Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alfie Devine, who is currently plying his trade with Port Vale in League One.

England continue their campaign for Euro 2024 qualification against Ukraine on Saturday. The Three Lions have won each of their four group games thus far but will face a tough test against a Ukraine side who sit second in the group.

After that game is done, England will round out their international window with a friendly against old rivals Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday 12 September.
