Former Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique, was left disappointed by Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly’s decision to appoint Frank Lampard as caretaker manager as he wanted to take over the Blues immediately and have a shot at Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Chelsea resisted the temptation to appoint a new permanent manager after sacking Graham Potter earlier this month.
The west London club brought Lampard back to Stamford Bridge as interim head coach until the end of the season.
The likes of Enrique and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann were keen to take the Chelsea job.
While Nagelsmann was keen to wait until the summer to make a decision on his next job, Enrique wanted to take over at Chelsea immediately, according to AS.
According to the report, Chelsea’s decision under the leadership of Boehly to hire Lampard on a temporary basis upset Enrique.
