Nigerian champions, Bayelsa Queens, who lost 2-1 to holders Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, in their opening Group B game at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League, will meet TP Mazembe of Democratic Republic of Congo in their second group game of the competition today.

It is a match that will determine Bayelsa Queens’ continued participation in the competition, as another defeat means they will crash out of the league in the first round.

Bayelsa Queens, who dominated the West Africa region en route the ongoing final round of the competition holding in Morocco, were unlucky to lose to Sundowns despite dominating much of the game.

They were let down by their profligacy in front of goal and according to Coach Domo Okara, the girls are better prepared now than they were in the opening game.

Okara, whose team scored in the last 10 minutes of the game against Sundowns, said his side would have claimed the three points at stake, if they had maximised the opportunities they had.

The goal by substitute Mary-Magdalene Anjor was the first Mamelodi Sundowns, who are the competition’s defending champions, have conceded in the competition.

“We gave our best but it was not good enough,” Okara said, adding, “we will come back stronger.

“What we are going to do next is to come back strong in the other two games, so that we can qualify from the group,” he said. “We will ensure we get the maximum points from the game against TP Mazembe.”
