The 57-year-old completed a domestic treble at the weekend as Celtic beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final – the second season in a row that the Australian has achieved the feat.

Spurs have been chasing a new manager since parting ways with Antonio Conte in March and failed to convince Julian Nagelsmann, formerly of Bayern Munich, and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot that the role was right for them.

Slot ended up signing a new contract at the Eredivisie champions, leading Spurs to turn their attention to Postecoglou and the terrific work he’s done in Scotland.

90min revealed on Sunday night that an approach had been made for Postecoglou and that an agreement in principle had been reached over personal terms. Sources have now confirmed that the Australian has agreed a two-year contract to take over in north London, with the finer details of the deal being ironed out before an official announcement is made.

Celtic did try to convince Postecoglou to continue his work with the club, going as far as to offer him a bumper new contract, but he intimated his desire to take on a new challenge and manage in the Premier League.

Postecoglou’s prior experience of managing in Europe, before his two-year spell at Celtic, is limited to a stint in charge of Greek lower league outfit Panachaiki, but he has enjoyed extensive success in his native Australia and in Japan’s top flight with Yokohama F Marinos.

He will take over a Tottenham side that will not be competing in Europe next season after a disappointing 8th place finish in the Premier League, while Harry Kane’s future at the club will be another immediate concern.

Real Madrid are interested in signing Kane, in addition to Manchester United and Bayern Munich, as they bid to replace Karim Benzema, who is heading to Saudi Arabia after 14 years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

90min understands that Celtic could turn to Brendan Rodgers, Jesse Marsch, Matthias Jaissle, or David Moyes to replace Postecoglou this summer.
