Suspected Fulani herdsmen kill five farmers, traditional ruler’s brother and one other in Benue

Five farmers have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State.

 

The incident happened on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, a few days after two men identified as Terseer Shagari Shemberga and Verkula Ger, were killed by Fulani herdsmen, at Tom Anyiin, also in Guma LGA.

 

Shemberga was the younger brother to Ter Guma, His Royal Majesty Chief Hon Dennis Shemberga

 

It was gathered that the five farmers were working in their farms when their assailants hacked them to death.

 

The villagers also said several others who were injured had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

 

A Security Adviser in Guma LGA, Waku Christopher, who confirmed the attack to Daily Trust, said four other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries after they were macheted by the herders.

 

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack but is yet to give details.

 

“Attack at Yelwata community is confirmed. Police officers who were deployed to the area are still in the operation. Details will be revealed as soon as the operation is over please,” the PPRO state.
