Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S 5G Review

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S 5G like the name implies is more less like the 5G variant of the Redmi Note 11S. It essentially swaps out the Mediatek Helio G96 provided in the 4G model for the 5G capable Mediatek Dimensity 810. Aside the upgrade to 5G, some of its features seems like a downgrade like the front and rear cameras. Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S 5G features a 6.6-inch AMOLED display, a 50MP triple rear camera, a 13MP front camera, and a 5000 mAh battery.

Design, Display, and Cameras

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S 5G looks very similar to the 4G model. They even share one color in common i.e. Twilight Blue. The other two options are different in Midnight Black and Star Blue.

The front facing 13 megapixels camera comes in a similar O-notch as the 4G model, though downgraded when compared to the 16MP camera in that model.

On the back, the camera module looks similar, though on close inspection you would observe that one of the cameras has been dropped, the depth camera in fact. This means you now get a triple rear camera setup in the 5G model compared to the four rear cameras we saw in the 4G model.

However, camera count is not the only issue in this Xiaomi phone, the main camera on the back was also downgraded from 108MP in the 4G variant to 50MP in this 5G phone.

The 5G version downgrade is reminiscent to what we saw between the Xiaomi Poco M4 Pro and Poco M4 Pro 5G.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S 5G has a 6.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. You also get 90Hz refresh rate and up to 450 nits of brightness.

Hardware and Software

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S 5G runs Android 11 on the MediaTek MT6833P Dimensity 810 (6 nm) octa-core chipset. This is the same chipset as models like the Xiaomi Poco M4 Pro 5G, the Tecno Camon 19 Pro 5G, and the Realme 8S.

The chipset features a dual-core Cortex-A76 and hexa-core Cortex-A55 clocked at 2.4GHz and 2.0GHz respectively. You get the option of 4GB RAM with 64GB or 128GB UFS 2.2 built-in storage or 6GB RAM with 128GB UFS 2.2 for built-in storage.

A non-removable 5000mAh battery which is supported by an 33W fast charging system is provided inside. The Redmi Note smartphone will charge from 0 to 100% in under 60 minutes.

Connectivity

The Redmi smartphone features a USB type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band WiFi. This model supports 5G, but beyond offering 5G does not measure up to the 4G only model in terms of features.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11S 5G price starts at around $219 at leading online stores. The Redmi Note 11S 5G costs around 200,000 Naira in Nigeria and 35,000 KES in Kenya.
