Hon. Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has applauded the selection of former Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, as Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2023 general elections.

Ajaka said that both Tinubu and Shettima are not ultra-Muslims, adding that their records in public offices are testimonies to rely on.

DAILY POST reports that Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), revealed on Sunday that Shettima will be his running mate in 2023.

The Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC has since stirred reactions.

Tinubu said that although there were concerns about the Muslim-Muslim ticket, he chose Shettima because the former Governor of Borno State would bring the best governance to Nigerians, irrespective of religion or tribe.

Reacting to the announcement, Ajaka, in a statement issued Monday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to see beyond the sentiments of religion and tribe.

Ajaka’s statement read in part, “The sterling qualities of our vice-presidential candidate, in the person of Senator Kashim Shettima, has once again thrown the opposition parties off balance.

“While we sympathise with the opposition parties, we appeal to Nigerians, who will eventually be the beneficiaries of good governance under Tinubu-Shettima presidency, to see beyond the sentiments of religion and tribe. Both Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima are not religious fundamentalists or ultra-Muslims. Their records in public offices are testimonies to rely on.

“As a two-term governor in Borno state, Shettima enjoyed the support of the Christian community throughout his tenure.”
