There was tension and drama in Anambra State recently, The PUNCH reports.
The tension was recorded at the Independent National Electoral Commission, Anambra State collation centre for the 2023 presidential election when the collation officer for Nnewi South Local Government Area, Prof. Chinwe Isikpo, alleged threats to her life by some unknown persons.
Isikpo had finished presenting the presidential election results of the Nnewi South LGA to the presiding officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti, on Monday, before suddenly shouting in the collation hall, alleging that some unknown men had been trailing her since yesterday.
The collation officer, after presenting her results, suddenly raised the alarm, which threw the entire hall into confusion and temporarily halted proceedings for a few minutes as she was guided out of the hall.
As soon as Isikpo climbed down from the gallery after presenting the result sheets, suddenly started shouting, “Please, I want everybody here to know that these men are after my life. They have been trailing me since yesterday and following me everywhere I go and also to this place.
“They have been threatening me and I don’t know why they are doing this. Please, my life is in danger and I want everybody to know this.”
No official explanation has been given by the relevant authorities to clarify the actual reason the collation officer alleged threat to her life, but she was immediately taken out of the collation hall to an unknown location by some INEC officials.
There were incidences of massive shootings at the Nnewi South LGA on Sunday, where some thugs were said to invade the secretariat in an attempt to snatch the ballot boxes as the election were taken place.
