The four lawmakers, Chairmen Bappa Shinge of Auyo Local Government Area (LGA), Bala Usman-Chamo of Dutse LGA,  Ahmed Rufa’i of Gumel LGA, and Shehu Sule-Udi of Ringim LGA in Jigawa state that were suspended by the state house of assembly on March 6, have been reinstated.

They were suspended for alleged misconduct, negligence, and improper use of public funds as determined by the Committee on Local Government during its oversight visit.

The House established an ad hoc committee to investigate the suspended council chairmen. Mr. Aminu Zakari, the Acting Chairman of the committee, presented the report, listing 11 findings and observations from the investigation.

Zakari stated that the committee conducted a thorough review of the documents, including reports from consultants on each of the four local governments. It also reviewed the documents submitted by the suspended council chairmen in their defense and considered their pleas. The committee formulated 11 recommendations.

One key recommendation was to issue a stern warning to the affected chairmen, urging them to refrain from any unethical or inappropriate actions in their administrative and financial dealings.

Following the report presentation, the house conducted a voice vote to decide on recalling the chairmen. With the majority supporting their recall, the Speaker, Mr. Haruna Aliyu, announced the reinstatement of the four chairmen, effective immediately.
