Doyin Okupe, Director General of Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, has submitted a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, withdrawing from the position.

The Labour Party and its presidential candidate had submitted the name of Doyin Okupe as their Vice-presidential candidate on a temporary basis (Place holder) to beat the electoral umpire’s deadline.

Okupe served as a placeholder as the party and its candidate is expected to announce a substantive running mate before Friday.

Recall that the party had said its Vice President will come from the North

This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC,” Okupe tweeted.

He added that “A replacement will be announced by the national chairman of the party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the LP.”

In a recent interview, Okupe revealed that Peter Obi was set to announce his substantive Vice presidential candidate between Wednesday and Friday this week.
