Warner Bros. and Fathom Events have officially announced The Neverending Story theatrical rerelease dates for the upcoming limited screenings of the 1984 classic fantasy adventure movie.
“In the film, a lonely young boy with a love of books becomes drawn into a timeless world of fabulous creatures—a world that only he can save from certain destruction—as he discovers that he is the hero of “The NeverEnding Story,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, The Neverending Story will be heading back to theaters nationwide on Sunday, July 21 and Monday, July 22. Each screening will also include a special introduction by cinema legend Leonard Maltin, as he shares his unique insights on the film. Tickets for the special screenings are available at Fathom Events, or at participating theater box offices.
The Neverending Story was directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Wolfgang Petersen from a screenplay he co-wrote with Herman Weigel, based on Michael Ende’s 1979 novel. The film starred Barret Oliver as Bastian Balthazar Bux, Gerald McRaney as Barney Bux, Tami Stronach as The Childlike Empress, Noah Hathaway as Atreyu, and Deep Roy as Teeny Weeny, It was produced by Bern Eichinger and Dieter Geissler. It currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 47 reviews.
