“The Franchise follows the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe,” the series’ logline reads. “The comedy series shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question — how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every f*ck-up has an origin story.”
Patel is known for starring in Danny Boyle’s Yesterday, which was released in 2019. He’s also been in movies such as 2020’s Tenet, 2021’s Don’t Look Up, 2022’s Enola Holmes 2, 2023’s Good Grief, and, most recently, 2024’s Greedy People, while he’s starred in television series such as EastEnders, Damned, Avenue 5, Station Eleven, and others.
Along with Patel as Daniel, The Franchise stars Aya Cash as Anita, Jessica Hynes as Steph, Billy Magnussen as Adam, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Darren Goldstein as Pat, Isaac Powell as Bryson, Richard E. Grant as Peter, and Daniel Brühl as Eric.
Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, and Julia Pastor serve as executive producers for Neal Street Productions alongside Armando Iannucci for Dundee Productions, John Brown, and Jim Kleverweis. Jon Brown, who serves as the series’ showrunner, wrote the pilot episode, which is directed by Mendes.
