The planned Street Fighter movie has lost its pair of directors, as Danny and Michael Philippou are no longer working on the project.
The duo โ who were known as the YouTube duo RackaRacka prior to directing the hit A24 horror film Talk to Me โ were tapped to direct a film adaptation based on the legendary fighting game franchise last year, and even spoke about the project as recently as last July.
However, according to THR, the pair are no longer working on the project due to scheduling issues. While Legendary and Capcom were hoping to begin production for the movie soon, the Philippous are instead set to work on Bring Her Back, a new film with A24 that will star Sally Hawkins and Billy Barratt and will begin filming this month.
As of now, nothing is really known about the Street Fighter movie, including any casting or release information.
The fighting game franchise is no stranger to adaptations, however. In 1994, a film based on the title was released starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, and Ming-Na Wen. Since then, there have been other animated shows and live-action spin-offs, like the 2009 film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and 2014 web series Street Fighter: Assassinโs Fist.
As for the Philippous, Danny and Michael gained notoriety through their YouTube channel RackaRacka that started in 2013 and featured comedic horror videos.
