The upcoming Star Wars spin-off series The Acolyte will be the first series led by the Sith in franchise history, according to star Dafne Keen.
In a recent interview with TechRadar, Keen was asked about what she can say on the upcoming show. While she didn’t give too much away, Keen did note that it will explore how the Sith infiltrate the Jedi and will be “Sith-led” — a first for the Star Wars series.
“I can tease that it’s a prequel,” Keen said. “No, I mean, as you know, it’s set 100 years before the prequel movies, and it’s kind of an explanation of how the Sith infiltrated the Jedi. It’s a Sith-led story, which has never been done before.”
While the Sith have been explored in countless pieces of Star Wars media in the past, the mysterious group has never been the full focus of a series before. It’s also unknown exactly which Sith, if any known ones, will be featured in the series, so fans will have to wait for more information as the show continues to be made.
The Acolyte is described as a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers that will be set within the final days of the High Republic era. Further details about its characters haven’t been revealed yet, but the project title references a Sith in the beginning stages of their training under an experienced Sith Lord. The Disney+ series is being written and executive produced by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who will also be serving as the showrunner.
In addition to The Acolyte, Lucasfilm is also currently developing a number of Star Wars projects, including The Mandalorian Season 3, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and more.
