Simon Pegg was one of the more surprising stars to show up in The Boys, yet he did not come back in later seasons. However, that is about to change with upcoming fourth season of the superhero show.
According to Deadline, the Shaun of the Dead star has signed on to return as Hughie’s father Mr. Campbell in the upcoming fourth season of The Boys, which is currently in production. He will be joined by three new cast members Rosemarie DeWitt (The Staircase), Rob Benedict (Supernatural), and Elliot Knight (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II), with DeWitt tapped for the role as Hughie’s mom.
Pegg has briefly spoken not being asked back for Season 2. He told Collider in 2020 that he “pleased to be a part of it,” but they “got [him] out of the way.
The Boys is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the supergroup known as “The Seven.” The show retains most of the comics’ boundary-pushing violence and sexuality while exploring the dark side of superhero celebrity and fame.
The Amazon Studios series stars Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and Karl Urban, along with Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Claudia Doumit, and Colby Minifie.
Season 3 featured the addition of Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles as the infamous Soldier Boy, Katia Winter as Little Nina, Miles Gaston Villaneuva (Law & Order True Crime) as Supersonic, Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints) as Gunpowder, Nick Wechsler (Revenge) as Blue Hawk, and Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead) as Crimson Countess.
The series, based on the comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is created by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, who are also responsible for AMC’s Preacher, and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.
Seasons 1 to 3 are available for streaming on Prime Video.
