Shinobi Movie Adaptation in the Works, Director Set

Sega is officially ready to bring another one of its iconic video game franchises to the big screen, with a Shinobi movie adaptation now in the works.

What do we know about the Shinobi movie adaptation?

The company announced that they are teaming up with Universal Pictures to bring the world of Shinobi to the big screens. A director and writer have already been found for the project as well, with Sam Hargrave (the Extraction series) set to direct the project and Ken Kobayashi (Sunny) adapting the screenplay for the movie.

Currently, nothing else about the casting, plot, or much else about the movie is known. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce through Marc Platt Productions. Dmitri M. Johnson will produce through Story Kitchen. Toru Nakahara will produce through SEGA. Mike Goldberg will executive produce alongside Timothy I. Stevenson, who is co-producing.

The Shinobi series first debuted in 1987 as an arcade game and quickly became a big hit for Sega. In its history, there have been more than 10 games in its history, the latest of which was 2011’s Shinobi 3D. A new entry in the series is in the works, however, with more to be revealed in the future.

Shinobi will follow Universal Pictures’ big video game adaptation success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Five Nights at Freddy’s, both of which were hits at the box office, with The Super Mario Bros. Movie earning over $1.4 billion.
