Renowned actress Cate Blanchett will join the cast of Guy Maddin’s latest film, Rumors. Production on the independent film begins October 9.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Maddin’s latest film has signed an interim agreement with SAG-AFTRA, allowing Blanchett to proceed on the project without breaching any strike restrictions.
With projects spanning the big screen and the stage, Blanchett has established herself as one of the best actresses of her generation. Having won several awards from huge award-giving bodies, the actress has continued to dominate the film industry with her 2022 venture, Tár. Her other film credits include Elizabeth, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, Carol, Thor: Ragnarok, and Nightmare Alley, among a handful of other successful projects under her belt.
On the other hand, Maddin — a filmmaker known for various critically acclaimed features, including The Saddest Music in the World, My Winnipeg, Brand Upon the Brain, and The Green Fog — will write and direct the upcoming project with longtime film collaborators Galen and Evan Johnson.
An eccentric filmmaker, Maddin has quite made a name for himself as a director with a surreal vision, which can be seen on his projects like Twilight of the Ice Nymph, The Heart of the World, Cowards Bend the Knee, and Keyhole.
There are no other details about Rumors yet, considering it is still in its early stages of development. However, with Blanchett and Maddin — both giants in their respective fields — collaborating, audiences can expect another record-breaking film from Blanchett and Maddin alike.
Rumors hails from Buffalo Gal Pictures, Walking Down Broadway Ltd., and Thin Stuff Productions, with Elevation Pictures releasing the film in Canada. ‘
