Luc Besson’s DogMan has found a distributor and is now expected to hit United States theaters in early 2024.

According to IndieWire, Briarcliff Entertainment acquired the distribution rights to Besson’s DogMan on October 26, 2023, after the movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival this past August.

DogMan is now expected to be released sometime within the first quarter (January, February, and March) of 2024.

What do we know about Luc Besson’s DogMan?

DogMan is written and directed by Besson, a French filmmaker known for making movies such as 1994’s Léon: The Professional, 1997’s The Fifth Element, 2014’s Lucy, and 2017’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out, X-Men: First Class) plays a character named Douglas who harbors a serious love for canines in the film, while Jojo T. Gibbs, Christopher Denham, Clemens Schick, Grace Palma, Marisa Berenson, and John Charles Aguilar also star.

DogMan was given a Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) interim agreement allowing actors to promote the movie during the ongoing actors strike when it played at the Venice Film Festival. Following its premiere, DogMan was released in France on September 27, 2023. It currently has a 56 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 18 reviews.

“I hope this movie that has convinced us will also convince those spectators and critics who think that Luc Besson only directs action movies, this is much more than that,” Venice International Film Festival’s Alberto Barbera previously said in a statement. “I am not telling you anything about the plot, it is really surprising, it is a monument to an extraordinary American actor Caleb Landry Jones who makes a performance that will become memorable. You will discover this very soon.”
