The Longlegs Thursday previews set a new record for Neon. The Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe-starring crime thriller is now on track to surpass the box office record set by the Sydney Sweeney-led Immaculate.
Thanks in large part to its horrifying marketing campaigns, Longlegs has truly captured the attention of horror fans. The movie, which debuted in theaters on July 12, is also getting positive responses from critics and audiences alike.
Longlegs has accumulated a total of $3 million in Thursday previews at the box office. It is also on its way to scoring the best opening weekend for the distributor, expected to break Immaculate’s record, which opened with $5.3 million. Immaculate, which also graced theaters earlier this year, earned less than $1 million in Thursday previews.
The film centers on Monroe’s Lee Harker, an FBI agent assigned to a mysterious murder case perpetrated by a terrifying “Satan-worshipping” serial killer known as Longlegs (Cage).
“FBI Agent Lee Harker is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes unexpected turns, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again,” the synopsis for Longlegs reads.
Directed and written by Osgood Perkins, the film also stars Kiernan Shipka (Totally Killer) as Carrie Anne Camera, Blair Underwood (L.A. Law) as Agent Carter, Dakota Daulby (The Warriors Gate) as Agent Horatio Fisk, Jason Day (How to Deal With a Heartbreak) as Father Camera, Alicia Witt (Urban Legend) as Ruth Harker, and more.
In addition to starring as the titular serial killer, whose character’s look was not revealed to the public until the film’s theatrical release, Cage also served as one of the producers alongside Dan Kagan, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Dave Caplan, and Chris Ferguson.
