Responding to a rumor that the role of Clark Kent is close to being cast, Gunn once gain stated that DC Studios has not spoken with any actors about the role and that he’s only made “private lists” and is prepping material for auditions. This lines up with comments Gunn made last week about how far along casting for the movie is.

The person who initially reported the rumor, Grace Randolph, followed up by saying that since Gunn debunked the rumor, she could reveal that the top choice for the role she had heard about was Hunters star Logan Lerman. Gunn denied the claim, simply stating, “For the record, I don’t know who that is.”

Some Twitter users interpreted Gunn’s response as a slight towards the actor, leading the director to clarify that it wasn’t and there are many actors’ names he doesn’t know. Gunn then said that now that he’s been told who Lerman is, he does recognize the actor and thinks he is talented, but reiterates that Lerman has never been involved in the casting of Superman in Superman: Legacy.

“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include Superman: Legacy, a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
