Inside Out 2 is a box office smash, and has now officially surpassed the original film in its total return as it continues its successful run in theaters.
According to the latest box office returns (via Deadline), Inside Out 2 has reached $863.1 million at the global box office through Thursday. That number is good to overtake the original Inside Out’s entire run ($859 million) in just 16 days of release. Inside Out 2 is also already the 19th-highest-grossing animated film ever worldwide.
The film’s success is only likely to continue, with recent reports suggesting that the film will cross the $1 billion mark in the coming weeks. As of now, Inside Out 2 is the highest-grossing film of 2024, having surpassed Dune: Part Two’s $711.8 million.
“In the follow-up to 2015’s Oscar-winning Inside Out, Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts—aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment show up,” the synopsis for the movie reads.
