The Watcher on Netflix is already trending in the top 10 at the time of writing. It was bound to happen and was even prophesized by yours truly right after episode 1! There is a great chance we can see it at the top. Ryan Murphy has done a number on us yet again.
His genius at crafting these suspense stories is second to none and The Watcher is binge-worthy and lives up to its billing of a psychological puzzle with maddening twists.
The series launched on Netflix on 13th October, and fans have already been sharing the same reactions to the series, with others digging into where the real characters are now.
If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more! Here’s what we know about a renewal:
The Watcher follows the Brannock family moving into the Westfield suburban area after making a valiant financial effort. 657 Boulevard certainly seems like a dream home to the family of four. But things soon start to take a turn for the worse.
If their weird neighbors weren’t enough, they start getting threatening letters from someone calling themselves “the watcher”. It certainly seems that whosoever is behind the letters means harm to them and will use violence without hesitation. Dean and Nora, the adult Brannocks, get the life shaken out of them as they struggle to make sense of what to do next.
Their personal lives are a shambles and Dean’s professional life suffers too, creating friction between the two and leaving a cancer-inflicted jazz musician turned private detective to figure out the mystery behind the watcher and the house.

The Watcher has not been renewed for season 2… yet. Chances are, despite its heroic performance on the viewership charts, Netflix’s hands are tied. Because the series is based on a real story, it cannot proceed further if there isn’t more of the story to tell. Of course, it can make a detour and reinvent season 2 as “loosely inspired by true events”.
To be honest with you, chances that the show will be renewed in whatever form are low. The main USP for this was that the perpetrator(s) were never caught. It has remained an unsolved mystery to date and it is quite certainly a possibility that the real offenders have maybe even seen the new show.
Even before the filming began, the show was commissioned as a limited series and that rarely translates into a renewal.
The tale of the show is restricted to the events of this article (it is a must-read btw) and cannot be expanded into something fictitious that does not adhere to the exact idea of the source material.
Absolutely no details are known yet. And chances are high they might never come across as Netflix won’t renew the show. This series has likely completed the overall plot with seven compelling episodes, which they were aiming for from the start. Do not keep your hopes up for this one – but do watch the show if you haven’t already. This a true mind twister that’s well worth watching!
