The Serpent Queen is the newest historical drama on Starz, depicting the tumultuous life of Catherine de Medici. If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know about a sequel:
The Serpent Queen is the latest historical drama to hit our screens; a darkly satirical look at Catherine de’ Medici, who marries into the French court as an orphaned teenager expected to bring in a fortune in dowry and produce heirs.
Unfortunately, this dream is shattered when Catherine discovers that her husband is actually in love with an older woman and she cannot conceive children. Catherine attempts to keep her marriage going – and rule France for thirty years.
At the time of writing, Starz have not renewed The Serpent Queen for season 2. However, the network do have a pretty good track record with renewing their historical dramas. Given the success of The White Queen and The Spanish Princess (both of which receiving second season orders), it’s not outside the realm of possibility to think this will be renewed too.
However, the ratings for this show have been much higher than that of Becoming Elizabeth, which was recently announced to have been cancelled.
With all this in mind, we’re going out on a limb and believe it’s likely this will be renewed for season 2. Given Starz have not given confirmation just yet (at least at the time of writing this article!), then we’ll have to wait and see.
We’ll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available.
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Starz have not green-lit a sequel. The ending certainly opens this up to an intriguing second season though.
If this is renewed, expect more fourth-wall breaking, drama, political scheming and shades of romance.
For now though, we’re under the impression that there will be a season 2, but we will aim to update this page when more information becomes available.
