Mental Coach Jegal is a sport drama about a former national athlete who becomes a mental coach to help former professional athletes who have retired or fallen into a slump. If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more! Here’s what we know about a renewal:
Je Gal-Gil is our protagonist, a former national Taekwondo athlete who is known for his hard work and charms. After being permanently expelled and coined the unlucky prodigy, Gal-Gil overcomes his trauma and returns to the village as a mental coach.
Cha Ga-Eul is a former world-class short track speed skating gold medalist, known as the up-and-coming “Ice Princess.” However, she faces the danger of fading out when she falls into a slump. That is, until she meets mental coach Je Gal Gil.
As these two find their fates colliding together, a rabble of other characters begin to interweave around their world, this sport K-drama combines deep character drama with uplifting sport values.
At the time of writing, tvN have not renewed Mental Coach Jegal for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.
The ratings began with a 1.5% share nationwide but since then, the show has been pretty steady at around 2.1% averagely.
Given that most Korean dramas only run for a single season, and the ratings aren’t lighting the early week schedule up, we predict Mental Coach Jegal will not be renewed.
We’ll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available though.
Most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, as detailed above, and with the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.
However, there is always the possibility that the actors return for a follow-up for a sequel or a spin-off featuring the same characters. But regardless, we don’t see this one as being renewed.
