Solo: A Star Wars Story could have looked very different featuring Glen Powell as Han Solo. The actor is currently riding atop a wave of box office success thanks to movies like Anyone But You and Top Gun: Maverick.
But the actor has opened up about his past failures while trying to land key roles that could have launched him to A-list status much sooner. One of these failed auditions was for Disneyâs Han Solo origin story.
Glen Powell âblewâ his final Han Solo audition for Solo: A Star Wars Story
While Alden Ehrenreich eventually landed the young Han Solo gig in 2018âs Star Wars prequel, Glen Powell came close to winning the gig. However, Powell recently said that he âblewâ his final audition.
In an interview with GQ, he opened up about all the major roles he lost out on over his career so far. Talking about being in close contention for Solo, he said:
âI can joke about it now, [but] I blew that final audition.â
Before that, Powell revealed losing out to Chris Evans for Captain America. He even auditioned to portray Harrison Fordâs son in Cowboys & Aliens and lost that to Paul Dano. He missed out âby a slim marginâ on starring in Christopher Nolanâs Oppenheimer, where he would have played Ernest Lawrence. But Josh Hartnett ultimately bagged the part.
Powell is set to next showcase his acting skills in Netflixâs Hit Man on June 7, which as per Comingsoonâs review, is âan outrageously awesome rom-com.â
Then, he could be taking the summer box office by storm in Universalâs Twisters on July 19. Beyond these two summer movies, Powell will reportedly be back in the Top Gun: Maverick sequel, and has also shown interest in playing Batman. However, whether he gets cast in James Gunnâs DCU remains to be seen.
