Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan has officially addressed the future of the blockbuster horror comedy franchise, teasing that more Ghostbusters movies are currently in the works. This comes after more than six months since Frozen Empire made its theatrical release, which earned a worldwide gross of over $200 million at the box office.
What did director Gil Kenan say about the upcoming Ghostbusters movies?
Even though Frozen Empire received mixed reviews from critics, it seems like Sony Pictures is still looking to expand the franchise. During a recent interview, Kenan confirmed that fans should expect to see more Ghostbusters movies in the future. In addition, he also opened up about Netflix’s upcoming Ghostbusters animated series, teasing that the show may include intersecting stories within the franchise.
“The answer is yes, Jason [Reitman] . . . we take the responsibility and the joy of being the keepers of the flame of Ghostbusters very seriously,” Kenan said (via TheDirect). “We definitely are continuing the conversation of telling big Ghostbuster stories on the big screen. And stay tuned. There’ll be more. There’ll be more about that later.”
He continued, “And I’ve spoken recently about the fact that we are in very active development on our animated series that we’re producing with Netflix. That is something that I’m actively involved with, Jason on a day-to-day basis right now, we are really excited about the stories that are starting to be told there, and the way that it intersects with the Ghostbusters stories that you and I love is going to be thrilling for our audiences.”
