Production is officially underway on Freaky Friday 2 with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Announced in a press release from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Freaky Friday 2 has officially started filming in Los Angeles.
The upcoming sequel to the 2003 Freaky Friday movie has been given a 2025 release date window.
Freaky Friday 2 will see Curtis and Lohan reprise their respective roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. Also returning from the 2003 movie are Mark Harmon as Ryan, Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Christina Vidal Mitchell as Maddie, Haley Hudson as Peg, Rosalind Chao as Pei-Pei, Lucille Song as Pei-Pei’s mom, and Stephen Tobolowsky as Mr. Bates.
“A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”
Newcomers to the cast include Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood), Sophia Hammons (Up Here), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, The Acolyte), and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever).
Nisha Ganatra is directing Freaky Friday 2. Ganatra previously directed 2005’s Cake, 2019’s Late Night, and 2020’s The High Note, among other titles.
Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Curtis are producing the movie, while Lohan, Nathan Kelly, and Ann Marie Sanderlin serve as executive producers.
The 2003 Freaky Friday movie, which was based on Mary Rodgers 1972 novel of the same name, was directed by Mark Waters, while the script was written by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon. It made approximately $160.8 million at the global box office off of an estimated $26 million budget.
Freaky Friday 2 releases in 2025. Freaky Friday, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Disney+.
